"Ugh!" I exclaimed. I was running late again and my children were still looking for that all elusive shoe. "If I ever make it anywhere on time it would be a miracle," I yell seemingly at the wall, my kids stand unaffected by my rant. I sigh in frustrated relief as one of the children exclaim in exaltation that the shoe has finally been discovered.
In the car the atmosphere is much the same- chaotic and LOUD! Of course I do what every parent has been known to do...I turn my radio up to attempt to drown out the unending arguing and tantrums. I am determined to stay cheerful today if it's the last thing I do! It is with this never-say-die mindset that I whip into the parking lot and begin my quest for the holy grail of parking spaces.
Having settled on a space that looks at least a mile from the store, I begin my journey into the jungle of consumer goods designed to make your children beg and guaranteed to have you pulling your hair out before crawling in agony back to your vehicle. No worries - Rogain is on aisle 7! Almost instantly it begins...there it is colorfully decorated and expertly stocked the latest wii thingamajig that just HAS to be bought! Right in the entrance! My heart races, my eyes dart to the nearest exit. If I run I might be able to escape without the thingumabob being spotted by my sons. Then I hear it- that sickening intake of breath that signals the massive display has indeed been spotted and the begging will soon commence.
As panic gripes my heart and sweat begins to collect on my hands that are white-knuckling the shopping cart, I send a feeble prayer up for the wisdom and skill to avoid the spectacle that is sure to arise once my children's hopes are shattered and lying on the floor at their feet. I repeat my mantra "I will be cheerful NO MATTER WHAT!" I secure my youngest into his prison at the front of the cart, and I latch tightly onto my oldest son's hand. I square my shoulders, look down at my shirt that is nicely marred with muddy paw prints, sigh, and press onward.
I begin to sing a praise song in my head as I scoop items off the shelf and into my cart. I will get through this without a trip to aisle 7 to purchase Rogain! As my mind begins to connect with the worship song that is on constant loop in my mind, something amazing begins to happen. My shoulders, once so tense, began to relax and a weight I hadn't realized was even there began to lift off of me, I can no longer see the whites of my knuckles! I look down at these children who have me scratching my head and biting my nails and doubting my sanity, and I see the innocence and beauty shinning through their gorgeous blue eyes. This must be how God sees us! At this realization, my youngest looks dead into my eyes and says, "I love you momma!" With tears brimming and threatening to spill out I swallowed the lump in my throat and assure him that I love him as well. How God's heart must burst when we look up at him without begging or pleading for the things we want and just say, "I love you daddy!" On this day I truly embraced my Super Power! And my journey begins...
My super power

So it begins!
I have been struggling with teaching my son to write with detail and organization. The book provided in our homeschool program was bland and boring. We have both been stressed out trying to learn in the way the book formats it. Today divine inspiration hit me and I switched gears and now I am beginning a new thing. Today I asked him to write about the day he found his super power. I told him we would take each day to write a new chapter in his book and at the end of the year if his writing is good I'll put it in actual book form and try to get him published! I know this is a lofty goal, and I have explained that even great writers sometimes go unpublished but it's worth a try! He wanted me to write with him so this blog is now my writing in response to our writing prompts. This is a quirky, humorous way I view life and the awesome power of God's love! Enjoy!
